Application of Ceramic membrane Technology in Cutting Fluid Reuse

2022-07-09

We know that metal cutting fluids can ensure surface smoothness and machining accuracy during the metal cutting process, and have a very wide range of applications in the mechanical processing industry. However, after a certain period of use, cutting fluid will become ineffective and become industrial waste liquid. If it is directly discarded, it will cause waste of resources, which is somewhat regrettable. If the cutting fluid can be purified and reused, and the service life of the cutting fluid can be extended, it would be great.

The failure and deterioration of cutting fluid is mainly due to the inevitable mixing of some impurities, such as metal particles (debris), dust, abrasive particles, fibers, free oil, water in cutting fluid, etc. When the content of these impurities is high, it can damage the tool and the surface of the workpiece during use. Furthermore, these impurities are the main catalysts for the oxidation and deterioration of the cutting fluid, which accelerate the chemical changes of the cutting fluid, resulting in higher acidity and greater interfacial tension, thereby causing the cutting fluid to deteriorate and fail. The successful application of inorganic Ceramic membrane separation technology in oil-water separation provides a truly feasible solution to this problem.

Inorganic Ceramic membrane separation is a new technology for material separation based on the screening effect of porous ceramic media. Adopting an efficient "cross flow" filtration method, which means that the fluid medium flows at a certain speed within the membrane tube under pressure, and small particles pass through the membrane in a perpendicular direction to the fluid flow. Large particles are intercepted to achieve separation, concentration, and purification. Under low pressure driving force, the cutting fluid flows through the membrane surface, and water and small molecule substances pass through the filter membrane to become permeate and flow out. Suspended particles are intercepted by the filter membrane to become concentrated liquid. The concentrated solution is always circulating in the membrane equipment system under pump pressure. The Ceramic membrane, while the permeate through the filter membrane, is constantly discharged. After exceeding the limit, when the cutting fluid is concentrated to a certain extent, the concentrated solution is sent to the concentrated solution static settling tank for static settling treatment, and the sludge is regularly cleaned.

Advantages of Ceramic membrane technology in separating cutting fluid:

1. Inorganic Ceramic membrane has good chemical stability and is resistant to chemical attack of acid, alkali and organic solvent

2. High temperature resistance, strong microbial resistance, no interaction with microorganisms, and can achieve online steam disinfection

3. High mechanical strength, high pressure resistance, good wear and erosion resistance

4. Narrow pore size distribution, good separation performance, and high permeability

5. Can be repeatedly cleaned and regenerated

6. Long service life, usually 3-5 years, or even 8-10 years

7. This technology has a simple separation process, convenient operation, continuous operation, high automation, low labor intensity, high production efficiency, low engineering investment, and small equipment footprint.
